It’s so important for these kids just to have the opportunity to play.

It does not have to be in an organized league, they don’t have to travel all over the country, they don’t have to pay tons of money to go all these special tournaments for any type of sport.

All I need to do is have fun playing the sport, get out there with their friends, play in the neighborhood and learn the games that they want to play.
必要なのは、近所で友達とスポーツを楽しみ、その中で彼らが好きなゲームを学ぶこと、それだけです。
That’s what I have grown up, that’s what all my friends did grown up.
私はそうやって育ちましたし、私の友達もそうでした。
And chances are they are not going to go to professional sports, but if they do this is a great foundation for that.
プロの選手には成れないかもしれません。しかし、もし成れたとしたら、これはとても素晴らしい基盤になります。
Just learn how to be a part of a team. That’s all that matters. You don’t need to win, you don’t need to go all over these places. You don’t need to have the nicest uniforms.
(近所のグループを含めた)チームの一員になる事を学ぶ。大事なのはそれだけです。勝つ必要も、色々な所へ行く必要も、カッコいいユニフォームもいりません。
You just need to have the opportunity to play wherever it is, and it’s something that I’m really passionate about and I hope you can get back to it.
遊ぶ機会さえあれば、どこだって構わないのです。これは私がとても情熱を持って思うことです。
補足情報
より少ない干渉によって、コーチは子供をより助ける事ができる
2006年、米国サッカー協会は”Best Practices for Coaching in the United States(リンク先にPDF)”という文書を発表しました。南米のストリートサッカー上がりのような、より創造的な選手を育てるために、練習の構成や発言を、コーチがより少なく、選手がより多くすることや、ピックアップ(自発的な遊び)のような練習セッションを持つことに抵抗感を持たないことが強調されています。
自由な遊びを経験する事の利益
自由な遊びをより経験してきた子供は、自分でゴール設定をし、その為に行動をとる能力が、そうでない子供に比べて高いという報告や、子供時代の自由な遊びは、大学での学術的な創造力と関連性があるという報告をはじめとして、おおくの利点が示唆されています。
